The new building holds many possibilities for future programs. The new facility will be able to care for more children, as well as provide a community center from which to expand our impact.
It is designed to merge traditional architecture with modern environmentally sustainable technology. Solar panels and cookers will save precious electricity and innovative waste management systems will recycle materials into fertilizers and cooking fuel. When completed, the building will act as a resource for the community, providing knowledge, medical care, and other services to those in need.
Why a new building? Since 2001, Ama Ghar has existed in a rented home 18 kilometers outside of Kathmandu. Four children slept there that first night, but now 38 children and 7 staff live there. The space is too small for so many growing children.
As the children grow, so does Ama Foundation’s mission. We would like to provide a loving home, education and health care to more needy children and also serve the surrounding community better. To do this, we needed a new home.
With any donation of $1,000 or more, Ama Foundation will carve your name or the name of someone you love on the Saatal. Sattal means “resting place” but this traditional structure will also be home to lively ceremonies, cultural presentations, dances and special dinners. You’ll be remembered whenever it’s in use!
